INDIA DEVELOPMENT & RELIEF FUND

Kick starts fundraising campaign to help Tsunami victims in India, commits $10,000 for immediate relief.

Answering to the call of help from Tsunami battered brethren from India; The India Development & Relief Fund (www.IDRF.org) has swung into action. Chapters of IDRF from different US cities are organizing fundraiser drives during coming 4 weeks. Living up to their tradition of fighting the natural calamities collectively, Indian-American community is supporting IDRF’s fundraisers whole-heartedly.

Volunteers from Sewa Bharati (Panchvati, Chetpet, Chennai), Jana Sankshema Samiti (Vijayawada, AP), Vivekanand Kendra and several other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have swung into action and are providing the much-needed rescue and relief services to the victims. Emergency medical services including medicines, food packets, drinking water, clothes are being provided. IDRF will channel the contributions to the above mentioned and other voluntary NGOs subject to their meeting official requirements.

IDRF today released their appeal to the nation to generously donate cash contributions towards the immediate relief and rehabilitation/reconstruction. Checks can be written in the name of “India Development & Relief Fund” and should be either handed to local IDRF volunteers (see website: www.idrf.org ) or can be mailed to IDRF, 5821 Mossrock Drive, North Bethesda, MD 20852-3238,USA. From IDRF’s website, one can also donate using PAYPAL. Donations may be tax-deductible.

With a more than 14 year long proven track record for helping the India’s poor and suffering people during previous calamities like Uttaranchal Earthquake, Latur Earthquake, Kargil war, Gujarat Earthquake, Orissa Hurricane disaster etc, IDRF has become a “Charity Of Choice” for most people amongst Indian-American community.

IDRF is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious and tax-exempt organization registered under Internal Revenue Code, Section 501(c)(3). Founded by ex-World Bank economist, Dr. Vinod Prakash, IDRF has been a favored means for thousands of donors in the USA who wish to contribute to various development, relief and rehabilitation efforts in India. During the past decade, IDRF raised fourteen million dollars in assistance and directly benefited tens of thousands of disadvantaged children, women, and tribal Indians.

IDRF in America is entirely administered by volunteers who receive no honorarium of any kind. This helps IDRF in maintaining near zero percent overheads. Thus, 100% of contributions will be disbursed directly to the NGOs helping the Tsunami victims. More information about IDRF’s projects can be found on the website http://www.idrf.org.
