Banaskantha District in Gujarat is mainly an agricultural economy. The standard of education has been very low and only 45% population was literate at the time of independence. The people of the district wished to do something for improving the education standards in the region and established the Kelvani Mandal in 1955 as a registered Public Trust. The eminent people of the community collected donations and started a secondary school and hostel on 18 acres of land. Today, Anjana Patel Kelvani Mandal has established various educational institutions that are providing quality education to students irrespective of their caste or religion.

Project Title: Co-Ed Commerce College and Girls’ Hostel
An NRI approached IDRF in the year 2014, for helping him in fulfilling his desire to expand college facilities in his native place (Palanpur, Gujarat). The concerned NGO, Shree Banaskantha Anjana Patel Kelvani Mandal, did not have Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration certificate in order to receive any foreign remittances. IDRF issued a ‘Letter of commitment ‘in 2014 for $200,000 on his behalf: to construct and establish a co-ed Commerce College and an adjoining Girls’ Hostel. IDRF also guided the NGO in proficiently completing the paperwork in order to obtain the registration certificate. IDRF sent funds to the organization in 2015 in order to expand the Commerce College which now accommodates about 1,000 students. The College is also able to offer new Hostel facilities to 200 girls who would have been deprived otherwise of such facilities.
