Nishi was once a shy village girl. Her mother was a science graduate whose in-laws had forbidden her to work. As Nishi grew up, her mom scraped and saved, hoping her daughter would have the career she never could. Nishi was an excellent student but her university fees were too expensive for this farming family.
Today, thanks to IDRF and our partner Lila Poonawalla Foundation, Nishi is a self-reliant and independent woman. LPF – with the help of donors like you- paid for her computer engineering school and taught her everything from professional skills to English. She is an IT engineer at Microsoft, and she has fulfilled her mother’s dreams.
On India’s National Day of the Girl, we salute Nishi and her mother!
